Practice Engine

Source material in. Deliberate practice out.

One practice engine runs two quite different subjects: a Japanese lesson, and a lesson in the language for describing how a remark from one person lands differently from the same words said by someone else. They share publication, session, attempt and evidence handling; each decides for itself what a question looks like and what feedback it can honestly give.

The opportunity

Designed for Learners, teachers, coaches and curriculum teams

Most learning tools deliver content. Practice Engine is designed around the harder problem: converting real source material into a deliberate-practice loop with editorial control.

Working now

  • Public demo running two subject modules on one engine
  • Bounded authoring studio: source to structured blocks to published lesson
  • Eight-stage lesson-authoring workbench (private tool)
  • Separate editorial approval and publication-readiness gate
  • Deterministic grading where an answer key exists, transparent self-assessment where none should
  • Stored progress, attempt history and normalized error evidence

Project in brief

Practice Engine began with a practical language-learning question: how do you turn source material into the focused repetition that learning actually needs?

It gives an editor a guided authoring and approval workflow, publishes only material that passes explicit checks, and records learner attempts, progress and error evidence. Approval and publication are deliberately separate steps.

The public demo runs two subjects on that one engine, and lets you follow a supplied text and recording through structuring, question writing, review and publication yourself. Nothing is graded by a language model: where an answer key exists the engine marks against it, and where none honestly could, it shows you the criteria and you judge your own answer.

Next is making source-to-lesson creation much simpler, and using the evidence a learner produces to choose the practice that would actually help them.
